  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) October 23, 2010 - Inland Empire-based Hodgdon-Miank Construction announced today that the company has completed a major renovation at the Long Beach Towne Center for a new Ashley Furniture HomeStore in Long Beach, Calif., which is celebrating its grand opening today, October 22, 2010. Ashley Furniture is occupying the former 35,200-square-foot Linen 'n Things building at the Long Beach Towne Center. The shopping center, which is managed by Vestar, one of the leading privately-held real estate companies in the western United States, is located at the intersection of the 605 Freeway and Carson Street in Long Beach.

Hodgdon-Miank Construction was the full service design-build contractor, responsible for hiring the architect and engineering firms and working with the City of Long Beach to obtain the necessary entitlements and permits, as well as performing major renovations to the former Linens 'n Things building's interior and exterior. "Re-purposing a building to fit another tenant's specifications requires considerable experience and to come in under deadline and under budget is rarely heard of," said Jeff Lochner, Senior Construction Manager for Vestar. Hodgdon-Miank Construction completed the job earlier than scheduled.

Mike Flynn, principal and LEED AP of Irvine-based KTGY Group, Inc., Architecture and Planning, served as the project architect for the project. Hodgdon-Miank Construction's Dan Wallner served as the project manager; and Stan Mann and Tom Blank served as superintendents.

Ashley Furniture HomeStore will join tenants Edwards Long Beach Stadium 26, Lowe's, Ross Dress Dress for Less, Sam's Club, Sport Chalet, Staples and Walmart. Ashley Furniture is the No. 1 manufacturer and retailer of furniture in North America; the stores provide every furniture need for the home.

Hodgdon Group Realty Inc. represented Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc. in the lease transaction. William Legier with Studley of Los Angeles, represented the landlord, Vestar Property Management of Los Angeles, in the lease transaction. Mike Garner, Vestar's Southern California Regional Director, was the landlord's representative. The Hodgdon companies have been working with Ashley for a decade on various real estate and construction projects.

Hodgdon-Miank Construction recently completed the major renovation of a former Circuit City for a new Ashley Furniture HomeStore in Hawthorne, Calif., which celebrated its grand opening on September 1st. Previously, Hodgdon-Miank Construction was responsible for renovating two former Wickes Furniture Store buildings in Palmdale and Victorville for the opening of an Ashley Furniture HomeStore.
