  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) January 06, 2011 - Inland Empire-based Hodgdon Group, a full-service real estate brokerage, development and construction team, announced today that it has completed the conversion of the former Circuit City for a Ashley Furniture HomeStore at 401 N. 1st Street in downtown Burbank, Calif.

Hodgdon Realty Group negotiated the 31,000-square-foot lease for Ashley Furniture with Crown Realty & Development, Inc. of Irvine, Calif. Hodgdon-Miank Construction served as the full-service design-build contractor and completed the major renovation for a new Ashley Furniture HomeStore. The Hodgdon Group has been working with Ashley for a decade on various real estate and construction projects.

The new Ashley Furniture HomeStore, which opened last month, is adjacent the Burbank Town Center and fronts the Interstate 5 freeway. The Burbank Town Center is the largest retail center in Burbank and is anchored by Macy's, Sears, Sport Chalet, AMC Theater (14 screens) and IKEA.

As the full-service design-build contractor, Hodgdon-Miank Construction was responsible for hiring the architect and engineering firms and working with the City of Burbank and the County of Los Angeles to obtain the necessary entitlements and permits, as well as perform major renovations to the former Circuit City.

"We worked closely with our design and construction team to redesign the exterior of the building including the addition of several windows, and a new facade and entry," said David Miank, Hodgdon-Miank Construction's executive vice president. "In addition to the exterior modifications and structural upgrades, the interior was completely demolished and redesigned to accommodate Ashley Furniture."

"The City of Burbank and Jim O'Neal, executive vice president of Crown Realty & Development, played a critical role in fast-tracking approvals to accommodate our very compressed construction schedule," said Aaron Hodgdon, president of Hodgdon Group.

McKently Malak Architects, Inc. of Pasadena served as the project architect. Hodgdon-Miank Construction's Dan Wallner was the project manager; and Tom Blank served as the superintendent.
