  • (1888PressRelease) August 19, 2011 - Redwood City, CA - Today, YottaMark, Inc. announced that the newest version of its free HarvestMark Food Traceability App is immediately available in the App Store and the Android Market. This new release adds support for QR Codes, the increasingly popular barcode format, and is available for the first time on Android phones, more than doubling the HarvestMark mobile shopping audience. Now, it is even easier for fresh food producers to deliver relevant item-specific content to shoppers in the grocery aisle and at home.

The free HarvestMark App allows shoppers to easily reconnect with the people that grow and sell their food, delivering inside information about the food they purchase, such as where, when and how it was grown. HarvestMark research and market results show that by sharing this information with shoppers, producers are able to drive brand preference and loyalty.

While many brands are adding QR Codes to packaging, the barcodes usually link to static web sites, offering little additional value. With HarvestMark, the content delivered by scanning a QR code is specific to the individual item, creating a unique and compelling opportunity for producers to connect with shoppers.

"In my experience, several leading produce companies have begun to use QR Codes to engage shoppers and build their brands. This is one of the most innovative uses of QR Codes that I've seen in fresh produce," said Dan'l Mackey Almy, President of DMA Solutions, Inc. and a HarvestMark advisor.

HarvestMark traceability has been added to more than 3 billion packages of fresh food available across the US and Canada. Popular brands use the HarvestMark system, such as Alpine Fresh, Del Campo, Driscoll's, Fresh Selections by Kroger, Progressive Produce, Sun Fed and many more.

"Food origins and freshness are top-of-mind for both shoppers and fresh food producers," said J. Scott Carr, president and CEO, YottaMark. "We're now connecting grower/shippers with shoppers in the grocery aisle using mobile technology and QR Codes."
