  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) September 19, 2013 - Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, one of the states premier care facilities, invites their local community to observe Child Health Day this October 7th, 2013. On this day, Grandell hopes to share the spirit of community in educating parents, educators, and community members about the importance of implementing healthy habits in the lives of children across the country.

Proclaimed a day of National Observance by President Calvin Coolidge in 1928, it was observed on May 1st until 1960, when it was moved to the first Monday of October. Organizations interested in child wellness are invited to join together on Child Health Day to help increase awareness of child health issues such as obesity, oral hygiene, prenatal care, and active lifestyles.

Healthcare organizations across the nation commemorate the day through various activities and events. The Health Resources and Services Administration provides educational resources for parents and schools about issues affecting their children, such as child obesity prevention and healthy choices. Today, about one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese. That is nearly triple the rate in 1963, a major risk factor for serious health consequences later in life.

"Although we as a healthcare organization do not treat or care for children, we at Grandell feel a responsibility to spread awareness of Child Health Day. Our children are indeed our future, and require proper guidance and care to be successful in life. These lessons that we teach them while they're young will stay with them for the rest of their lives and hopefully influence the decisions they make concerning maintaining a healthy lifestyle," says Baruch Giberstien, Administrator at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
