  • (1888PressRelease) December 18, 2010 - In 2010, the manufacturers of mobile phone case and structure performed differently. PERLOS, which was purchased by Taiwan's Lite-On Technology, has regained the global No.1 position and it has obtained more orders from Nokia, thus with its performance rising substantially. By contrast, Jabil Green Point, also the supplier of Nokia, has suffered downslide in revenue.

The orders from RIM, the second largest client of Jabil Green Point, have been increasingly seized by HI-P, while Motorola, the third largest client, has remained in recession. The performance of Taiwan Green Point has been in decline ever since its acquisition by Jabil Circuit in early 2007 and that of PERLOS has been on the rise.

Challenged by PERLOS and BYD, the case and structure business performance of FIH has fallen; while BYD has embraced steady growth in performance.

South Korea's KH-VATEC made explosive achievements by virtue of the best-seller Nokia N97 MINI in 2009, but it has dropped along with the downslide of N97 MINI in 2010.

The mobile phone business of NOLATO, the plastic magnate in Sweden, stems from its acquisition on Mobile Phone Case & Structure Division of Ericsson. In 2010, NOLATO has increased the investment in its Beijing base, received more orders from Sony Ericsson and Nokia, and has grown in performance despite the falling business of Sony Ericsson.

Subordinated to Foxconn Technology Group, Foxconn Precision Components Co., Ltd. is the major supplier of metal cases for Apple mobile phones and its performance has expanded sharply along with the explosive shipment of Apple mobile phones. INTOPS, the major supplier of Samsung, has suffered declines in its performance under the competition pressure from Chinese enterprises.

With the orders from Nokia and RIM in Q4 2010, the performance of Catcher which is the key supplier of metal cases for HTC mobile phones has advanced rapidly, and the growth momentum will continue in 2011. JANUS, a Taiwanese enterprise located in Dongguan city, Guangdong province, China, provides more than 80% of its products for Samsung, the client singleness has resulted in the highly centralized risks, but the company has snatched a lot of orders from South Korean local suppliers. Chi Cheng Enterprise Co., Ltd., the large manufacturer of metal cases and structures, currently devotes itself to laptop field after years of being beaten by Catcher and Foxconn Precision Components Co., Ltd.

ELCOTEQ is the EMS tycoon, one of the few large electronic manufacturers in Northern Europe, as well as one of the major suppliers of Nokia. The Germany-based BALDA feels dispirited about the mobile phone field with low gross margin, yet it has certain strength.

Larger display brings inferior structural strength to the entire mobile phone; therefore, metal case has become the best choice for ensuring the intensity and stability of mobile phone. Touch screen, in particular, is comparatively fragile, and it is best to employ metal cases when the size is above 3 inches. In addition, smart phones need to solve heat dissipation notwithstanding the huge size. Consequently, metal cases will enjoy substantially increased shares in smart phones and touch screen mobile phones.

Laptop field is prone to the vertical integration of big manufacturers. Quanta has energetically improved the output of Zhanyun Electronics and strives for the objective that 50% cases and structures are to be produced by Zhanyun Electronics, while the molds are to be developed by Jinda Precision. Compal Electronics Inc. and Ju Teng International Holdings Limited have jointly established Jubao Precision Machining (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. to march into metal case and structure field. Wistron has set up WIS Precision (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. and Wistron Precision for the production of plastic cases and structures. With the investment of US$60 million, Inventec and Huan Hsin Holdings Ltd have co-founded Inventec HuanHsin to produce plastic cases and structures. And ASUS has invested in AVY Precision Technology Inc. Most of the enterprises aforementioned were established in early 2008 and went into operation at the end of 2008 with limited production. Owing to the diluted profit of laptop OEM industry, the manufacturers have to raise the proportion of internal supply, which implies that there cannot be new entrants in the future laptop case and structure field without the support from laptop OEMs.

Entering 2010, the price war of FPTV has become fierce, and foreign-funded enterprises have lowered the prices by virtue of conspicuous cost advantages. The enterprises in Mainland China have to make the price even lower; in that case, merely meager profit can be obtained from FPTV which was originally quite profitable. The remunerative FPTV enables manufacturers to outsource part of profile structures. However, the outsourcing tends to shrink as both market and profit slide down. Guangzhou Echom Science & Technology Co., Ltd., the largest manufacturer of TV profile structures, has been actively involved in the exploration of home appliances and automotive sector.
