  • (1888PressRelease) April 01, 2011 - Margaret "Maggie" Gill was selected to lead Memorial by a vote at last night's regularly scheduled board meeting.
Gill joined Memorial in 2004 as vice president for managed care and finance and was promoted to chief operating officer in 2005. On January 5, 2011, she was named interim president and CEO.

"I am excited about this opportunity and would like to thank the board of directors for their vote of confidence in me and our team," said Gill. "Memorial is an outstanding organization that is known for excellence in clinical quality and patient safety. We will remain focused on these strengths while we work diligently to improve our finances."

Since assuming the interim CEO role, Gill has restructured Memorial's leadership team, launched a re-engineering of Memorial's billing and collections processes, renegotiated several major managed care contracts, and developed a new strategic plan for 2011 that addresses many of the organization's most-pressing issues. She has also placed a major emphasis on both physician and Team Member relations.

"Maggie has done an outstanding job during the past three months and the 6 ½ years she has been with Memorial. Our board believes she is the right person to lead Memorial going forward. She has a wealth of experience in operations and finance," said J. Curtis Lewis, chairman of the Memorial Health board. "When we began to think about recruiting a permanent CEO, we realized we were fortunate to have the best candidate already in place."

Gill earned her bachelor's degree with honors at Florida State University and earned her MBA with honors at Saint Leo University in Florida. She also completed course work at Wharton School in strategic thinking and management.
