  • (1888PressRelease) March 07, 2018 - Approximately every three minutes, a child or adult in the United States is diagnosed with a type of blood cancer. Gift of Life Marrow Registry and Florida Blue are partnering up on to recruit bone marrow donors to help patients battling blood cancer and in need of a transplant.

More than 10 recruitment drives will take place throughout the state on March 10, 2018, Florida Blue's Community Partner Day. The event promotes health and well-being and will raise awareness of the importance to diversify the registry.

Many types of leukemia, lymphoma and other genetic diseases can be treated or cured through bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants. The best chance of finding a match is between two people with a shared ethnicity. There is an urgent need to diversify the registry, so that all patients can find a donor when one is needed.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in the drives. It’s fast and painless. A simple swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match. If you are between the ages of 18 and 45 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need.
