  • Kansas City, MO-KS (1888PressRelease) April 10, 2012 - Geri Higgins, President & CEO of Portfolio Kitchen & Home™, has been selected to participate in the first ever "Set The Mood" competition hosted by Luxe Interiors + Design magazine and Caesarstone® the pioneer in natural quartz surfaces. Luxe and Caeserstone® hand picked 17 of the top architects and designers from across the United States to participate in a mood board competition in celebration of Caesarstone's launch of 17 new colors and their first annual Pop-Up Color Tour. Ms. Higgins and each of the 16 other participants were sent a mood board kit along with one of the 17 new Caesarstone® colors to use as the inspiration for their mood board design. All of the mood board designs were featured at "Set The Mood" - an exclusive by invitation only event hosted by Luxe Interiors + Design at their New York offices on Wednesday, April 4th. Ms. Higgins and the other mood board designers were special guests on hand at the "Set The Mood" VIP reception where each of the 17 mood boards were on display. The participants and invited guests enjoyed dinner, drinks and dancing on the South Street Seaport in NYC. Hosts for the launch party event included Luxe Interiors + Design Editor-in-Chief, Pam Jaccarion, and VP Group Publisher, Jennifer Matthews. The mood boards will also be on display on Thursday, April 5th at the South Street Seaport location in Caesartsone's innovative and unique "Color Pop-Up Tour" dome.

For her part, Higgins and her Portfolio design team created a mood board for a fabulous women's dressing room based upon the new Caesarstone® color (#6250) that was assigned for the competition. The concept and inspiration for the design is drawn from Audrey Hepburn's character, Holly Golightly, from the iconic film Breakfast at Tiffany's. The dressing room's design is a highly styled, conceptualized version of the dressing room Hepburn's character would have in today's world. The overall design is a transitional mix of traditional and contemporary elements blended into a fabulous and sophisticated space worthy of the most discriminating modern diva. Among the dressing room's featured elements are a sleek floor-to-ceiling Caesarstone® fireplace surround, Caesarstone® toped island cabinetry with glass inserts for jewelry display conjuring images of a Tiffany's display case, and an elegant dressing table with Caesarstone® top and sculpted back and side risers.

The room also features beautiful custom cabinetry, black leather tufted walls, stylish chaise and arm chair seating, and a vintage French crystal chandelier to add sparkle. The mood board itself features a beautifully hand-rendered drawing of the dressing room along with photos of the room's elements (sleek Sevilla leather chaise, Phillippe Starck Ghost chair, Barbara Cosgrove table lamp, among others) and inspirations (Van Cleef diamond necklace, Coco Chanel perfume, classic Ray Ban sunglasses, and many more). All of these elements are represented in the drawing as well right down to the Apple iPhone on the floor next to the dressing table.

This unique honor is among the latest for Ms. Higgins who was also recently chosen to serve on the Thermador National Design Council, named as one of Kansas City's Most Influential Women by KC Business magazine, and is frequently quoted in nationally syndicated feature stories and columns on the subjects of lifestyle and design.
