  • (1888PressRelease) May 12, 2011 - "When I hear him play live he carries me up and away" said Christy Moore of songwriter Ger Wolfe who is touring to The GB Shaw Theatre on May 20th to celebrate his new C.D. release "Fréamh-Root".

Featuring Ger's new quartet with excellent musicians Edel Sullivan (Violin), Richard Lucey (Button Accordeon) and Paul Frost (Double Bass), and albeit with a strong folk-pop-trad. slant, this is music that will entrance and entertain all lovers of good music in any genre.

On the night expect some of Ger's well known songs such as 'The Curra Road' and 'The Lark of Mayfield' alongside other numbers from his five previous albums and bi-lingual material from the new album specially written from working with some of the older members of the Múscraí Gaeltacht, re-telling some of their stories in song and indeed tune. Also on the program will be traditional tune playing of the highest calibre and most importantly, a great night's fun.

The bi-lingual 'Fréamh ; Root' is a beautiful collection of new music which will interest people who might remember their 'cúpla focail' and those who don't even have a word of the Irish language because the melodies and sounds are so accessible. Music can transcend all barriers including language and this music surely soars.

'Fréamh ; Root' was released this April in anticipation of the 'Bealtaine Festival', celebrating creativity in older age. The tour is presented with funding support from the Music Network performance and touring award scheme.
