  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 08, 2013 - In an effort to create a math curriculum that is relevant and helpful to adult learners, GCFLearnFree.org has revamped its math program, launching brand new content for its addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tutorials.

These new tutorials are a new approach to delivering content. Up till now, the GCFLearnFree.org math curriculum relied heavily on text, alienating learners who struggle with literacy or are non-native English speakers. The new tutorials are accessible to all populations with an emphasis on images and interactives.

Basic math concepts are introduced and explained to learners using slide shows. With an inviting design, learners can go at their own pace learning procedures and concepts through a visual presentation. With 18 new types of interactives and almost 250 math problems, the content is presented more like a math workbook than the standard text book.

"This new curriculum is an exciting way to present math and is beautifully designed. It's a great way for learners to practice math immediately upon learning a new concept," stated Elizabeth Szypulski, Adult Basic Education Curriculum Lead.

All interactives were designed and created in house by GCFLearnFree.org instructional designers and staff developers.

Only the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tutorials have been updated as of now. In the coming months, other existing tutorials will get the same treatment, including decimals, percentages, and fractions. Eventually the staff will expand into new subject areas including algebra and geometry.
