Garvey was inducted into the Junior Achievement Puget Sound Business Hall of Fame as a laureate. Honored at a ceremony at the Paramount Theatre on April 6, the induction celebrates Garvey's business accomplishments and his lasting impact on society.

    In 1966, Garvey and two classmates from the University of Washington Law School formed the firm that later became Garvey Schubert Barer. Founded with just 39 files, $800 in the bank and a $12,000 line of credit guaranteed by the attorneys' parents, the firm is now one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest with more than 25 service areas and a national and international footprint. Garvey is also a founder of Saltchuk Resources Inc., a Seattle-based holding company with a portfolio of at least 20 operating businesses and combined annual revenues of $1.5 billion.

    In addition to Garvey, 2011 laureates being inducted into the Hall of Fame include Jerry Grinstein, who engineered Burlington Northern's purchase of Santa Fe Pacific and also served as CEO of Delta Airlines; Sally Narodick, education technology and e-learning pioneer; and Ricky Smith, who grew Seattle Stevedoring into SSA Marine, the largest global stevedoring and terminal services company in the U.S. The laureates were selected by an independent committee chaired by the Puget Sound Business Journal's Publisher Emory Thomas.
