  • (1888PressRelease) March 04, 2015 - For the first time the Jazz Club at Pizza Express in Soho, London, has invited classical composer and pianist GéNIA to take part in their Steinway Jazz Festival. GéNIA's music has received much acclaim, not only from a classical music audience, but also from the jazz world, due the tonality and rhythm of her compositions overlapping between these two genres. GéNIA will perform a set from her latest album 'Dreams of Today, Thoughts of Tomorrow', several jazz pieces and give a special premiere of her piano duet with the Mercury Prize nominated outstanding Zoe Rahman.

Additionally, the Jazz Club will be hosting a special Piano-Yoga® masterclass with GéNIA (Piano-Yoga® founder), inviting pianists from all backgrounds (jazz, classical and pop), who are interested in trying out this new unique holistic method that also enhances their well-being. The masterclass is intended for professional musicians, students, teachers and intermediate to advanced amateur players. Described by Yoga & Health magazine as 'The first entirely new piano technique to emerge in over 50 years', this interactive event will give participants an opportunity to get personalised feedback from GéNIA on their playing, including tips on technique, concentration exercises and performance nerves strategies. 'It really does work. Many pianists have been helped with this unorthodox and unusual method' (Piano Professional). No previous yoga experience is necessary. Participants are welcome to ask any questions they like (whether with the music or without) about their pieces and playing. The ticket also includes a free pizza after the end of the masterclass.

"I would encourage any pianist, amateurs and professionals alike, to sign up to one of [GéNIA's] courses!"
    International Piano Magazine

    About GéNIA
Described by The Times as 'an outstanding musician', GéNIA has a diverse repertoire and an enthralling stage presence. GéNIA was taught piano by her great-grandmother, the renowned pianist Regina Horowitz and went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Trinity College of Music.

GéNIA made her London debut as a concert pianist in the Park Lane Group Young Artist Series, which was followed by concert tours in the UK, Europe and USA. Recent London performance venues include the Wigmore Hall, Barbican, Southbank Centre, Olympia, Kings Place, St.John's Smith Square and St Martin in the Fields. GéNIA features as a soloist on the soundtracks of award-winning films "Paradise Grove" and "Bookcruncher" and her recordings and live interviews are regularly broadcast on BBC TV and Radio including BBC London Radio and BBC Proms. GéNIA often supports charitable causes; most recently she gave a gala concert for UNICEF. Her classical repertoire is diverse and virtuosically astonishing.

As a performing artist GéNIA made a controversial and pioneering move away from the classical concert platform for number of years. She has collaborated with an eclectic range of artists and composers, particularly in the world of piano and electronics as an innovative composer and performer who has also crossed over into the world of pop music.

GéNIA's recorded music career to date has seen the release of several ground-breaking records of contemporary music on both Blackbox and Nonclassical labels.

These collaborative experiences helped GéNIA move into the world of composition four years ago. Her Debut EP Album "Dreams of Today, Thoughts of Tomorrow' of solo piano compositions has recently been released to great acclaim. Her music has been broadcast on BBC Radio and is currently being played in all branches of Caffè Nero worldwide. It has also been performed internationally including concert stages such as The Hurlingham Club London, Theatre de la Photographie et de L'Image Nice, La Note Bleue Monaco, The Burgh House and Kings Place London.
GéNIA is also the founder of Piano-Yoga® - a multi-dimensional method of piano playing, performing and teaching which Yoga & Health Magazine described as 'The 21st century answer to playing the piano.' GéNIA regularly gives master-classes, lectures and retreats based on this holistic approach. GéNIA;s Piano-Yoga® book of exercises "Transform your hands", which is central to the method, is available from Amazon and various retailers.
