  • (1888PressRelease) August 09, 2013 - FUTURE MONARCHS are hitting new heights with the release of their debut EP "Weird Weather" on LOJINX produced by two time grammy award winner PAT SANSONE (WILCO) whilst supporting the infamous BRENDON BENSON, co-founder of the RACONTEURS on their UK & European tour between the 9th and 24th August.

FUTURE MONARCHS is a band eleven years in the making. Built around the songwriting talents of childhood friends and bandmates Bobby Lord and Jake Anderson, they have pulled together the disparate influences of the 60's British Invasion pop, Laurel Canyon folk and the indie rock that they grew up with into a sound that is as infectiously familiar as it is paradoxically original.

For many of us, British Music Invasion is a hazy memory, the kind of memory that makes us smile and remember a time when things were less complicated. Laurel Canyon is an area in Southern California where artists such as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Carly Simon, among others happened to reside during the 1970's. Along with soft-rockers like The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, these artists wrote intensely personal and lyrically strong pop with shades of folk, rock, sometimes jazz and country. Meticulously produced, polished, smooth, earthy and acoustic, the musicianship was always top notch.

With over a year's worth of demos and over a hundred songs between them, Lord and Anderson were both excited to create an outlet for their music. Visualizing a group that could syndicate Lord's refined hook-infused pop with Anderson's earnestly organic singer/songwriter romanticism- FUTURE MONARCHS was formed. Lord handed their demos to Columbia College sound recording professor Josh Shapera who, enthused by their songs, solicited the help of his friend Pat Sansone (of Wilco) as co-producer. The result is the 6-song EP Weird Weather.

To fill out their live sound FUTURE MONARCHS enlisted bassist Justin Park, Billy Klein on drums and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Sager on keys, guitar and percussion, with Lord and Anderson sharing guitar and vocal duties.

Future Monarchs debut track "Bells" is now available to download, for free, from their facebook page at facebook.com/futuremonarchs. They will be supporting Lojinx label-mate Brendan Benson on tour in the UK & Europe in August.
