  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) December 01, 2010 - "Good Morning America" (GMA) announced today that Fran Harris, Dallas-based life coach, Fortune 100 consultant and WNBA Champion, has been named a finalist for the 'Dear GMA Advice Guru'. More than 15,000 applied, 20 were chosen as the top candidates.

The 20 finalists are vying for a full-time position as a "21st-century advice guru" for the popular morning show. The guru, a sort of Dear Abby, will have an on-air role and will also pen an advice column for the GMA web site.

Harris first heard of the opening from her sister, Debra. "She said, 'this is you'," said Harris. "For the last 10 years, I've made my living as a speaker and life coach helping individuals, families, teams, universities and companies become peak performers and high functioning humans."

Advice columns, tackling everything from health, to family, to careers to finance, have been a big part of American life since the advent of the newspaper. GMA is now bringing it to life.

Harris, who recently hosted HGTV's "Home Rules", a makeover show in which she coached people through a myriad of life's dilemmas and challenges, believes that experience helped her fare well in the competition. "My coaching philosophy is fairly simple: ask tough questions and help the client find their own solutions," said Harris.

In the next round, the 20 finalists will be put through a series of tasks including answering viewers' questions before the group's cut to a smaller number. The selected candidate is scheduled to begin in January 2011.
