  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) December 07, 2010 - While most kids are busy making their Christmas lists and dreaming about presents under the tree, nine-year-old Erica Council is raising money for less fortunate children through her charity, Make-A-Wish Juniors. 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Council, a fourth-grader at Highcroft Drive Elementary School, recruited several friends to help rake neighborhood yards and sell homemade bookmarks, bath salts and other items. The goal is to raise at least $100 by Christmas. So far, the charity has raised $67.50.

"I created Make-A-Wish Juniors when I thought about how sad a terminally ill child's parents, grandparents, cousins and friends must feel and how I would feel if I knew that my life was in great danger and I could get one last wish," said Council. "Even though the situation would be very sad, I think I would be happy to know that someone cared enough to donate time and/or money to help me get my last wish."
