  • (1888PressRelease) August 13, 2012 - LAGbook just announced that its Senior Vice President, Saheed Shodipo and 8 others are leaving the African Social Networking Giant. Shodipo was LAGbook's first President/COO in August 2011. Before that, he was LAGbook's Head of Risk and Asset Management. Recently, he was appointed Senior Vice President of LAGbook, a move many considered a demotion. With Shodipo's departure, Chidi Nwaogu, CEO at LAGbook appoints Emmanuel Alugo as its new company's Senior Vice President.

The news came after a reorganization of the company that was revealed some days ago. The move reflects LAGbook's growing emphasis on profitability and job effectiveness, with all Vice Presidents reporting directly to Josh Osemwegie, the Company's President. And that news, of course, came after an 8 weeks advertising deal with Research In Motion (Blackberry) Nigeria that even Chidi Nwaogu, CEO at LAGbook admitted was "amazing, yet challenging".

"Saheed Shodipo and eight others leaves us effective immediately," said Chairman, Chika Nwaogu, in a statement earlier today. "Everybody have made invaluable contributions to the growth of LAGbook in their various ways and means. We deeply appreciate all that Shodipo and the rest have done for LAGbook. Shodipo and 8 other team players leaves us as a friend of the company and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors."

"The Reorg comes from a will to merge job responsibilities and create a more challenging work environment for the remaining team members, in order to yield productivity and increase profits for our young social company in the nearest future.", said Josh Osemwegie, President at LAGbook.

Other team members leaving the young social company include, Kayode Ojo (VP, Business Operations), Aseize Okaztle (VP, Information), Manuel Odhe (VP, Marketing), Uche Okiya (VP, Operations [Ghana]), Moses Arfo (VP, Product), Alex Enechukwu (Director, Public Relations), Zino Owoko (VP, Engineering), and Oghor Rawlings (Social Retention Manager). This cuts down workforce from 23 to 15. That's nearly 35% of its workforce.

"The job responsibilities of our departing team members will be merged with the job responsibilities of some of our staying team members.", said John Nwaogu Jr., Vice President, Human Resources at LAGbook. "Nosa Ilegbenehi (VP, Finance) takes over responsibility of our Business activities. Onyelo Kinglsey (VP, Technology) will be handling all responsibilities of our outgoing VPs of Engineering, Product and Information. Similarly, Jake Adebayo (VP, Publicity) takes charge of our Marketing and Public Relations, and Amara Nwaogu (VP, Customer Support) takes over the responsibility of our various social network presence."

"Uche Okiya leaves us as a result of a move taken earlier last week to shut down our administrative presence in Ghana and merge it with the responsibility of Presidency." said Chidi Nwaogu, CEO at LAGbook. "I'm affirmative that there will be a huge downsizing at LAGbook in the near future, chances are that it will be when we hit the 1,000,000 member mark. I'm looking at a team of 5! Call me crazy."

LAGbook is an African-based social networking website targeted specifically at the youth demographic (18-30), but permits registration of people 13 and older. The social network with over 230,000 registered members, is most popular amongst internet users in Germany, Pakistan, Mexico, France, China, Bangladesh, Philippines, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Malaysia, Canada, Indonesia, Romania, Denmark and especially in Nigeria in the city of Yaba, Lagos, where the social network was incepted and ranks #2.
