- (1888PressRelease) May 18, 2013 - Flower show is part of summer festivals in Ooty, the exclusive flower show will be held from 17th to 19th of May 2013, at Ooty the Botanical gardens. This will be the 117th show of its kind held every year. The horticultural committee organizing this show declared it on Saturday. Summer festivals of Ooty are the unique attraction for the tourists visiting this hill station.
The first Ooty flower show was held in the year 1896 by Nilgiri Agricultural Society, which was inaugurated by the then collector Mr.Tremenhere. This show is arranged by the department to present horticultural developments in the region. A garden competition is conducted for creating awareness among flower growers, garden lovers and farmers. Like every year an average of two hundred gardeners will be competing this year. Every year during the flower show around two hundred fifty exhibitors are taking part in different categories. Both government and voluntary agencies take part in the show, exhibiting more than fifty varieties of potted plants and one hundred fifty varieties of cut flowers. Indian, Japanese flower arrangements, floral decorations, vegetable carvings, bonsai and flower rangoli are the highlights of this years flower show.
