  • (1888PressRelease) July 11, 2013 - The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Chennai participated in the National Retail Summit 2013 - "Winning t h e Consumer in a Multichannel World" & National FMCG Summit 2013 - "Winning in Volatile Times" which was recently held at Hyatt Regency, Andheri East, Mumbai.

    The two days summit was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

    Citing about the relevance & requirement of participation in the summit, Mr. Raajeev J. Lakhara, Managing Director, FDDI said, "The objective of participation in the summit was to enhance skills, develop relationships, foster collaborative actions and take concrete steps for the growth of the retail sector, which is very demanding."

    During the inaugural session of the summit, a report by CII and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) - titled 'Winning with Uncertainty' was released.

    The report 'Winning with Uncertainty' suggests the Indian retail sector to create a new business model to satisfy customer by reducing the complexities in distribution channels, pricing strategies, customer care strategies etc. The report explores how FMCG companies and retailers can leverage uncertainty to their advantage and also elucidates the importance of trained man power in the retail sector.

    During the summit, Mr. Abheek Singhi, Partner & Director, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) shared his views on "Retail: Managing the Multichannel", Mr. Debashish Mukherjee, Partner & Mr. Kaushik Madhavan, Partner AT Kearney India expressed their views on "Supply Chain Management Strategies in Volatile Times".

    Mr. Ashish Rai, Head- Rural Operations, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. shared his views on "Developing and Managing Innovative Distribution Channels", Mr.S.Swaminathan, General Manager, GS1 India expressed his views on "Connecting Brands with Consumers and Increasing Operational Efficiency".

    Mr. B. Jogarao, Divisional Head - Commercial & Mr. Amit Shah, Head of Marketing, ITC Limited shared their views on "Innovative Packaging and Waste Management" whereas Mr. Anurag Mathur, Partner, Accenture India shared his views on "Perfect Execution in FMCG: Using Cloud and Big Data".

    "The deliberations of the summit will help in understanding the ground realities of emerging retail sector and beneficial in designing new academic model which will pave ways for accelerating the growth of the retail sector," added Mr. Lakhara.

    The summit was successful in analyzing the grass root elements such as inflation, socio cultural change, changing consumer behavior due to advancement information technology, detrimental competition strategies among the retailers which play the role of catalyst to boost the volatility in the sector.
