Fairfield Harbour's Community Emergency Response Team Hosts Free Disaster Preparedness Classes

  • Jacksonville, NC (1888PressRelease) August 27, 2013 - Fairfield Harbour, a residential boating and golf community located 15 minutes from historic New Bern, has announced that its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will host six free disaster preparedness classes in September at the Activity Center, located at 904 Coral Reef Drive. Offered annually, CERT training is a nationally recognized program made available by FEMA that provides attendees with valuable safety information in the event of an emergency. Classes will be held on the following dates and times:

    - Tuesday, Sept. 10, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    - Thursday, Sept. 12, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    - Saturday, Sept. 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    - Tuesday, Sept. 17, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    - Thursday, Sept. 19, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    - Saturday, Sept. 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    The Fairfield Harbour CERT program instructs on basic first aid, light search and rescue, volunteer safety and home fire safety, including hands-on fire extinguisher practice. Additionally, attendees will learn about the disaster psychology involved when dealing with victims of tragedy. The course will conclude with a mock disaster drill to place attendees in a real-life situation to display what they learned. Afterwards, attendees will receive a certificate of course completion at the graduation ceremony.
