  • Pittsburgh, PA (1888PressRelease) March 10, 2011 - Launched in November, 2010, "The Elevators" sunglasses created for Pittsburgh rap star Wiz Khalifa are now selling around the world. 500 pairs of the first edition frames worn in the "Black and Yellow" video by Wiz Khalifa are nearly sold out, even after the Pittsburgh Steelers let down in Super Bowl XLV.

"Thirty percent of sales are international," said Brad Childs, vice president of Eyetique. In addition to Steeler country in Western Pennsylvania, sales have also been reported as far as Canada, California, Alaska, and Hawaii. Eyetique anticipates the need to produce a second edition run of "The Elevators" design to meet customer demands.

To launch their custom-designed frames, eyetique worked with ocreations, a Pittsburgh design firm, to develop a new website and in-store graphics to drive traffic and sales. Daily hits on the eyetique website (www.eyetique.com) rose from 3,000 to 40,000 due to Wiz Khalifa's fame and they're not slowing down.

Norman Childs, president of eyetique, collaborated with Wiz Khalifa when he was working on his video for "Black and Yellow". He created a few prototypes and "The Elevators" were born depicting the aviator look from the mid 70's to early 80s. They are available in tortoise or black and retail for $225.

A single "one-off" Elevator frame was created with yellow temples and has a retail value of $10,000. "We would like to keep that one for our collection," said Norman Childs.

Founded by Norman Childs, eyetique first opened in 1979 in the Squirrel Hill area of Pittsburgh and has grown to 7 stores located throughout the greater Pittsburgh region. Norman Childs has been designing his own line of glasses since 1998, which has become the best-selling line at eyetique. They have built their reputation on providing exceptional service along with high-fashion, high-quality products. More information can be found at www.eyetique.com.
