  • (1888PressRelease) May 11, 2019 - The European Commission has amended Annex III of RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2) with the publishing of Directives (EU) 2019/169 to (EU) 2019/178.

Published on February 5, 2019, the directives update the exemptions to RoHS 2. Directives (EU) 2019/169 to (EU) 2019/177 add greater clarity to existing exemptions. Directive (EU) 2019/178 creates a new exemption, entry 42, for the use of lead in bearings and bushes of diesel or gaseous fuel powered internal combustion engines used in non-road professional use equipment.

The amendments cover a variety of applications (materials and components), which use lead and cadmium. These include:
    • Lead used in certain dielectric ceramics, solders, fluorescent powders and printing inks
    • Cadmium used in certain electrical contacts and printing inks
