  • (1888PressRelease) May 09, 2012 - TUCSON, AZ-EquiSight is finalizing their technology by partnering University of Arizona engineering students' brainpower with the industry expertise of Medusa Scientific, LLC. This dynamic partnership will combine research and development efforts to move the "jockey cam™" prototype design into a substantial marketable product. The newly formed partnership between EquiSight and Medusa has enabled the company to develop a proprietary imbedded camera, virtual presence IP and wireless transmission technology for the use in other sports, entertainment, law enforcement and military applications.

The EquiSight camera system is being developed as a project by David P. Matt and Kenleigh Hobby, students at the University of Arizona (UA) enrolled in the Race Track Industry Program (RTIP), a one-of-a-kind program that has educated some of the most successful equine professionals. UA engineering seniors joined with Matt and Hobby to design the patent pending technology for the "jockey cam" system.
EquiSight was one of the senior capstone design projects featured during the University of Arizona (UA) College of Engineering Design Day on May 1. This annual event showcased more than 55 projects designed and built by seniors majoring in various engineering disciplines. The team won second place for Texas Instrument Analog Design Contest and advances to compete in Texas Instrument's national competition.

EquiSight recently partnered with aerospace and defense industry experts Medusa Scientific, LLC to build and commercialize the smart horseracing helmet for jockeys with the ability to stream sound, vision and GPS data to give viewers the real-time virtual experience of being in the race along with the jockeys.

Medusa Scientific CEO Dan Hodges stated, "We're excited to see these bright young engineers and entrepreneurs step out and succeed. American strength is derived from innovation, and innovative actions stem from young men like these pushing through boundaries into unknown new areas". Chief Scientist Rick Gerdes added, "Our systems engineering, electro-optics and proprietary high-bandwidth wireless communication are resulting in a real-time system for EquiSight; one that has never been fielded before. It will add a startling element of realism and a high fidelity experience to the viewers. Additional markets for the system".

"This innovative technology will revolutionize the industry by putting horseracing fans in the saddle. We envision the number of horseracing fans to increase exponentially in the next few years with EquiSight," said co-founder Kenleigh Hobby.

EquiSight co-founders, David P. Matt and Kenleigh Hobby recently launched their company with assistance from the business incubator, the Arizona Center for Innovation (AzCI). AzCI provides structured business development for technology companies and works with entrepreneurs to move technology through the commercialization process. EquiSight is also a portfolio company with Wasabi Ventures, a venture capital, incubator, and consulting firm that specializes in building and advising early stage technology companies.
