  • (1888PressRelease) January 05, 2012 - Wilmington, N.C., -- Environmental Source Samplers, Inc. (ESS), an air and emission stack testing firm based in North Carolina, announces a successful completion to a stack testing project at Lamma Island and Castle Peak Power stations in Hong Kong, China. ESS works with power generation and other industrial companies throughout the United States and worldwide to sample, analyze, and report on air emissions from pertinent stacks and sources.

ESS mobilized to Hong Kong within two weeks of being awarded the bid, and the testing required a six-week trip on-site in Hong Kong. The ESS team worked with the Hong Kong Department of Environmental Protection and in conjunction with local testing companies during the preparation and on-site work. A total of four project engineers from ESS were on hand to supervise and train local Hong Kong workers on American testing methods and analysis.

"International governmental agencies and air testing firms look to American testing companies for their expertise, and familiarity with EPA testing methodologies," ESS owner and chief engineer Mark Looney said. "Local companies have the necessary labor, but good equipment can be difficult to find, and the labor that is available is not trained in proper EPA methods for compliance."

The completed project required aspects of training and knowledge transfer in addition to testing requirements, as is often the case in international projects. ESS staff worked on-site with local companies to train and instruct in the proper methods and equipment for running a complete test series, educating them on how the project should move forward.

A veteran company in international projects, this testing represented the first time that ESS was involved in business in Chinese territory. The company has previously conducted international stack testing projects in places such as the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, and in countries in Europe.

ESS was founded in 1979 as an environmental consulting firm specializing in air and emission source testing. Their extensive experience with ever-changing EPA air quality regulations and emission source test procedures as well as their highly trained engineers and their commitment to customer service makes them a leader in their field, both nationally and internationally.
