  • (1888PressRelease) May 18, 2018 - Milan – This year the International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians (UITIC), an organisation which aims at developing technical knowledge in the footwear industry, by organising international conferences on a regular basis, entrusted the Congress organisation to CTCP – Portuguese Footwear Technology Centre and APICCAPS – Portuguese Footwear, Components and Leather Goods Manufacturers Association. The fully-packed program of the Congress will focus on the ways in which technology and digital are playing a fundamental role in everyday life and how they are influencing the different sectors of the industry, especially production. In this context, the event aims to provide food for thought on the positioning of every brand and anticipate future interactions, completely different from the current ones, with its customers.

During the first day of the Congress, on Thursday 17 May, during the Session 1 - NEW PRODUCTS, NEW SERVICES, the CEO of the startup, Andrey Golub will present two White Papers. The first, “Individual Fitting for Virtual Footwear Retailing: Building a link from 3D CAD to Industrial Made to Measure”, introduces a new approach for the Virtual Fitting of shoes in the footwear industry, called “Individual Fitting”, based on proprietary and patented Machine Learning algorithms. The paper also briefly presents “RoboShop 2018”, the shop-factory of the future, an Industry 4.0 project with a purely sustainable imprint and a look towards the future of footwear, developed together with ATOM Lab and ShoeMaster.

The second paper “Personalized Digital last (a Women's Example), the tool required to enable mass custom-ization”, which will be presented together with Carol McDonald of Gneiss Concept, has already been vali-dated as a best practice for the footwear industry and published on the official channels of the standards development group of the IEEE Standards Association, 3D Body Processing, that the two authors are a part of. The second paper mainly examines the development of a personalized digital last and the impact on the role of footwear technicians to guarantee better fitting footwear. As the personalized digital last becomes the basis of future footwear production, the role of footwear technicians may expand to include a broad-er definition of fit, maintaining libraries of different lasts, and maintaining quality safeguards for mass cus-tomized footwear.
