Speaking about the importance of this event, Dr. Nisreen Al-Hmoud President of the conference steering committee & head of the Biosafety Unit at the Royal Scientific Society, the most prominent of the EHSC entities, said: "Experts, scientists, political and diplomatic figures will discuss the methods used to educate and protect societies from biological contamination. Moreover, they will discuss how to apply technology and innovation to deal with health and security challenges threatening our communities."

"We hope that this conference will be beneficial to all participating members and will contribute to supporting the environmental and economic reforms in the region, aiming to face the biological threats in the least complicated ways." She added.

For his part, Mr. Terence Taylor, President of the International Council for the Life Sciences (ICLS) said that the 3rd BBIC conference is considered exceptional since it covers different types of biological risks whether arising from naturally occurring infectious outbreaks or those arising from research misadventure or laboratory accidents. The conference holds another feature since it is regionally organized, ensuring that its process is relevant to the challenges faced by the region's communities."

In his comment, Mr. Nizar Zahran Assistant to the President for Strategic Planning and Executive Director of Marketing at the Royal Scientific Society said: "The hosting of the 3rd BBIC reflects Jordan's strong presence on the international scene and the pioneering role of El Hassan Science City in environmental research and protecting natural resources from contamination. The hosting also falls within El Hassan Science City's goals, aiming at protecting the environment, supporting scientific research, and developing and retaining human resources."

Coinciding with the press conference, El Hassan Science City organized a specialized biosafety training course, in which 20 local companies participated and were trained and educated about the basic principles of biosafety.

Managed by Ms. Heather Sheeley, Biosafety Program Lead at the Health Protection Agency - UK, the workshop aims to educate laboratory directors and scientists about the biological risks resulting from operations at their laboratories.
It should be noted that El Hassan Science City (EHSC) was founded on the belief that scientific research and application is a key mechanism for developing and retaining human resources and capital ultimately leading to the sustainable development of vibrant and productive communities in Jordan and the region.
