Editage intensifies educational outreach for authors in China

  • (1888PressRelease) April 27, 2017 - In March, Editage Insights, the author education arm of Cactus Communications, conducted nine workshops and three webinars for Chinese authors and journal editors. To assist authors who are not confident with English, five workshops and two webinars were conducted in Chinese. Hour-long sessions on 'Common Errors in Writing and Submitting Research Papers' were conducted at Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing University Of Information Science & Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Wuhan), Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and Nanjing University by Professor Yang Gan, an expert in materials chemistry and physics as well as head of the Department of Energy Chemical Engineering at Harbin Institute of technology. Dr Gan, who is an editorial board member for International Journal of Nanomedicine (Dove Medical Press) and an associate editor for RSC Advances, also conducted an hour-long webinar in Chinese on 'How to respond to reviewer comments'.

    In addition to Professor Gan's workshop and webinar series, one English webinar titled 'Essentials of publishing a research paper: A journal editor's perspective' was delivered by Caitriana Nicholson, Managing Editor, Chinese Physics C, Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP).

    Further, Dr. Donald Samulack, President U.S. Operations, Editage, who was in Beijing for ISMTE's 2nd Asian-Pacific conference, conducted a workshop on "How to Improve Your Chances of Publication Success: Tips and Guidance for Authors" at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, the Central University of Finance and Economics (Beijing), and the Department of Urology at the Beijing Shougang Hospital. The workshops were attended by over 120 doctors, nurses, PhD candidates, faculty, and researchers. Dr. Samulack also shared his insights on 'Scrutinizing the Manuscript - Is it Acceptable for Publication?' with 20 senior and junior editors at China Science Press.

    Author education is a priority for the scholarly communications company this year. Editage Insights has launched an industry-wide survey to gather the opinions of thousands of authors worldwide and share their opinions at important upcoming conferences. In the past few months, Editage has also organized workshops and webinars in China in collaboration with partner publishers IET, IOP, and Hindawi.
