  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) December 09, 2015 - This Christmas, Santa is adding "Tent City" to his route. Matthew Newman, an East Dallas Lake & Garden District entrepreneur and founder of the Food for Compost nonprofit organization, is bringing a festive Christmas Eve dinner to "Tent City"- the area where many of the city's homeless reside. The holiday festivities, including a catered meal, music and a very special jolly guest, will take place from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 24, 2015. To volunteer, or for more information, please visit www.TentCityChristmas.com.

Donations of coats, blankets and toys may be dropped off at the following two locations from Monday, Dec 7th - Wednesday, Dec 23rd at 8:00 PM:
    1. The Lot (Restaurant), located at 7530 E Grand Avenue in Dallas, TX 75214. Look for the red Tent City Christmas donation box upon entry.
    2. Wholefoods Market - Lakewood, located at 2118 Abrams Road in Dallas, TX 75214. Look for the red Tent City Christmas donation box near guest services.

"Christmas Eve Dinner in Tent City is just one way for us, as a community, to show folks that we care, and that no matter where you reside, the spirit of Christmas can come to you," says the founder of Food for Compost, Matthew Newman. We're not here to judge, condone or criticize. We're just here to serve," says Newman.

Newman, along with other local partners, plan to spend the afternoon providing practical needs, but also give families an opportunity to enjoy their very own holiday party- and momentarily escape the harsh realities of life on the streets. The team will host a complete Christmas dinner, and distribute toys, coats and blankets.

"Next year, we hope we don't need to have this party. But until then, we want to make sure folks have food, coats, blankets and even a little holiday cheer. This is just a simple gesture to let them know that they are not forgotten," Newman states.
