  • (1888PressRelease) November 11, 2010 - Abu Dhabi, UAE - Universal Dental E-Learning (UDENTE) is a 'golden opportunity for dental learning', says Prof Patricia A Reynolds, Director of the Centre of Flexible Learning in Dentistry at King's College London, UK. Speaking during the opening day of the 2010 Dentistry Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, Prof Reynolds believes that innovative solutions such as UDENTE promote the globalisation of dental education allowing students from the Middle East access to high quality e-content and ensure eminence in education.

UDENTE is the world's first virtual dental school developed by King's College London under the name of IVIDENT, a £2.3 million three-year UK government funded enterprise to deliver all aspects of dental education through a flexible online environment.

"UDENTE addresses the shortages in teaching staff by supporting the complete dental education cycle through a flexible learning environment," says Prof Reynolds. "But of greater significance is the opportunity this new technology brings for all of us to work as a single global community of professionals no matter where in the world you are or how isolated you may be."

The Middle East's largest gathering of dental professionals opened today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The Dentistry Exhibition and Conference will run from 9 to 11 November, 2010, with more than 30 leading experts in the field of dentistry highlighting the educational significance of the event. Online learning is already an exciting option for today's students but bringing this technology into dentistry will mean dental students in the Middle East are on pace with the future of education.

Crafted by IIR Middle East Life Sciences, the organisers of the annual Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, Dentistry 2010 is an opportunity for delegates to attend a selection of workshops in various dental specialities which will provide a strong clinical aspect to the conference. The event is supported by the UAE Ministry of Health and the Dubai Health Authority.

Attendance at a lecture or workshop will carry CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits, and delegates can expect to leave the event with tangible solutions aimed at saving time and increasing efficiency at their respective practices.

"Dentistry was launched in 2009 as a platform for 'selective' professionals to share thoughts and enhance educational learning," says Dr Asmat Lone, Chairman, Dentistry 2010. "The event's success has now gained status in the regional strata amongst international dental suppliers who exhibit from across the globe, manufacturers who extend renowned speakers and academics who share the results of their research every November in Abu Dhabi. A distinguished feature of this year's conference programme is a gathering of its seasoned faculty under one roof, who will carve a niche via clinical solutions to the industry which may be benchmarked globally."

Running beside the conference is a major exhibition showcasing a wide range of products including imaging software, impression materials, hand instruments and implant systems from leading regional and global suppliers.

The Nicholas & Asp University College (NAU) is the first Euro -American institution in the UAE offering "Western" specialty academic training programmes in dentistry.

"This idea is unique to the Middle East and it reduces the necessity for travel overseas especially for those who seek a balance of dental specialty training with family life," says Simon Nicolas, assistant marketing manager for NAU, speaking from their stand at Dentistry 2010. "We are here at Dentistry 2010 to raise awareness about our new programmes and to ensure commitment to post graduate education in the region."

The event will continue on 10 - 11 November at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Trade visitors have unlimited access to the exhibition, and may register their participation at any time during the event.
