  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) February 28, 2013 - Prolific and poetic in his authentic and earnest photographs, Karel de Beer is an entirely self-taught artist. Simplicity is the hallmark of these freshly classical works, with de Beer taking as his subject unmitigated and unalloyed visions of nature and architecture. With an unrelenting eye for purity and beauty, the artist captures the sights of the present as they are tempered by the past. Yet he is unsentimental in creating his compelling works; instead, the photographer coaxes from seemingly banal moments profound instances of exquisiteness. "While photographing I don't forget the past," he explains.

"I hope that people will be touched somehow and get a good feeling while watching my photoworks." Using a digital camera and his computer, de Beer slightly tweaks his photographs after he snaps them, but remains honest and true to his roots as a film photographer. Through his digital works, he is able to imbue the reality of his images with the magnificent nuance of melody and harmony.

Born in the Netherlands, Karel de Beer lives and works in Tilburg, where he was raised.
