  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) July 23, 2010 - Yesterday evening, Crisanta D. Duran (www.DuranForColorado.com), Democratic candidate for Colorado State House District Five, faced off against her opponent in a debate hosted by the Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association at the Wynkoop Brewery in lower downtown Denver.

Ms. Duran contrasted her experience with that of her competitor and demonstrated a keen ability to take on the issues that are impacting voters in House District Five (HD5).

"Let's face it, our economy is in real trouble," said Crisanta Duran. "I'm concerned with the way the economy is heading and I firmly believe I'm the best person to get it back on track. I've put forth an economic plan so that on day one I'll be ready to address the most pressing concerns of voters in HD5."

Primary voters in HD5 will be voting August 10th to decide who they will send to the state legislature to represent their interests at a time when the state faces serious problems. The successful debate was symbolic of the Duran campaign's energy and enthusiasm leading into the final weeks of the primary campaign.

A sixth-generation Coloradoan and longtime resident of the district, Ms. Duran has received endorsements from Congressman Ed Perlmutter, Wellington Webb, former Mayor of Denver, Governor Roy Romer, Polly Baca, former State Senator many more. When asked to name the one thing that her opponent lacks, Duran responded by saying, "It's easier to name one thing he knows, which seems to be health care. By all appearances, my opponent is running on a single issue."

Ms. Duran served as Political Director for Senator Mark Udall in his successful 2008 U.S. Senate race where she effectively organized women, diverse community members, labor, seniors, and the LGBT community. In 2008 she was elected to serve as President of the Colorado Young Democrats and acted as a Democratic National Convention Delegate. Ms. Duran has also worked on legislation to promote workers' rights at the Capitol and negotiated contracts with multi-billion dollar corporations to provide stable wages and affordable
health care to thousands of workers and their families throughout Colorado.
