Dubai is growing in importance as a pivotal market in automotive trade. This is bolstered by its po-sition as a regional trade and commerce hub coupled with the UAE's well-known appetite for au-tomobiles. The business-friendly environment fostered by a far-sighted leadership as well as its excellent infrastructure and seamless transport & trans-shipment links means Dubai is fast becom-ing a preferred regional base for international auto manufacturers.

According to figures released by Dubai Customs, the Emirate had imported approximately AED 13.4 billion worth of automobiles by the end of the third quarter in 2011 - including cars and com-mercial vehicles - underlining Dubai's ongoing love affair with automobiles.*

In addition to feeding the appetite of local car enthusiasts, Dubai's thriving ports are also the centre of a robust re-export business, which allows automotive majors access to the otherwise tough-to-reach Middle East, Central Asian and North and East African markets. Building on the inherent advantages of possessing a modern transport infrastructure, award-winning airlines and highly-efficient ports, in 2011 alone, Dubai had racked up AED 5.8 billion worth of re-exports of automo-biles by the end of the 3rd quarter.*
"Dubai is at the centre of a thriving automotive trade and thus is also the logical focus of attention for leading aftermarket players," said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, who organise Automechanika Middle East, the premier international business networking event for the automotive aftermarket in the Middle East region. "Over the past ten years, Au-tomechanika Middle East has built up a reputation of being the must-attend event for international manufacturers and suppliers interested in trading with this lucrative region," he added.

According to Dubai Customs, Japan, China, Germany, South Korea and USA were the leading countries of origin for aftermarket imports into Dubai in 2010. The leading markets for re-exports the same year were Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Pakistan. The complete 2011 figures for Auto Parts Trade in Dubai will be released during the upcoming Automechanika Middle East set to take place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 22nd to 24th.

Celebrating ten years in operation as the premier trade fair in its field, Automechanika Middle East brings world leading suppliers, manufacturers and service providers in touch with one of the world's most promising markets for the automotive aftermarket and associated industries. This year's edition is expected to attract even greater attention during its May 22nd to 24th run.

Making its debut at Automechanika Middle East will be AutoPro, a full service car repair service provider that delivers preventive maintenance and repair programs. AutoPro bridges the gap be-tween traditional road side garages and Original Equipment Manufacturers.

"Automechanika Middle East will allow us to present AutoPro to the region. We have seen the growth of Automechanika in the past years and we truly believe that this is the platform that will greatly enhance our market scope. With dedicated support for fleet customers we guarantee a minimal vehicle downtime as we understand that in today's economic climate it's about maximizing efficiency and managing costs," said Tariq Al Rasheed, Sales & Marketing Manager, Automotive Services Unit, ENOC.

India-based manufacturers of agricultural, industrial, construction, OTR and mining tyres, BKT, will be looking to grow further in the market through the exhibition. "Our experience with Automechani-ka Middle East has been excellent and we expect to have another successful outing this year," said Sudhanshu Agrawal, Senior Marketing Manager at BKT.
