  • (1888PressRelease) April 30, 2015 - Drug Free World South West branch distributed 800 booklets during the much celebrated local half marathon. "World Health Day" was celebrated earlier this month on 7th April to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO and to encourage groups to get involved in activities that lead to better health. Drug-Free World South West wanted to highlight the dangers of drugs and alcohol to individuals' health and well-being. The booklets are designed to educate people on the dangerous side of drugs, which supports the idea that education plays one of the biggest roles in overcoming the drug problems in society.

Viv Lowe, Volunteer from Drug-Free World stated "It is alarming that an estimated 208 million people internationally at all levels of society consume illegal drugs, and in the UK alone research suggests the use of Marijuana in 15-16 year olds is around 38%. What is also concerning is the number of people drinking alcohol to excess. Figures suggest that in Plymouth, 20,757 people drink alcohol to excess and this includes both males and females." The Truth about Drugs campaign is sponsored by the Church of Scientology and was set up with the aim of educating people about the effects of many commonly mis-used drugs and alcohol. The campaign has many aspects to it, including drug education booklet distribution and the provision of information kits and educator kits to groups and educators. See www.drugfreeworld.org. The kits provide a comprehensive lesson plan designed to give educators all the tools they need to give pupils the information they need to make an informed choice.
