  • (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2016 - A former Royal Marine saw his world collapse around him, after suffering a life-long injury, preventing him from continuing in the job he loved. However, thanks to the support of Devon based charities, former Colour Sergeant Andy Burns has successfully found a new challenge in life after retraining to run his own business.

Having joined the Royal Marines in 1988, Andy spent 25 years doing the thing he loved most, until a training accident in 2010 saw him face several years of surgeries and rehabilitation, as doctors looked to repair extensive shoulder damage. Unfortunately, the recovery was limited and it was soon decided the then Colour Sergeant could no longer continue to serve in the Royal Marines.

The realisation of losing a life-long career began a dark and difficult period for Andy. As is often the case with many injured servicemen and women, there is often little, if any, light at the end of the tunnel. Thankfully for Andy Burns, with the support of his family and several charities, he turned misfortune into an opportunity for a new start, finally training as a ChipsAway mobile repair technician, covering Exeter and Newton Abbot.

Andy commented "The support I've received from Devon charities SSAFA, the Royal Navy Benevolent Fund and 'C' Group has been incredible. I've been truly humbled at the way they've gone beyond expectations to support injured servicemen. In short, they have been brilliant!"

He continued "I never thought I'd have the chance for a second career, let alone one as my own boss. Even though my injury changed my life forever, being where I am today is testament to the work these charities are doing to support servicemen.

Having retrained for the new venture, Andy plans to officially launch ChipsAway Exeter at the Exeter Vale Tesco Superstore, on Friday 5th February between 9am - 4pm where customers will be able to get instant free quotations for scratches, scuffs and minor damage to their vehicles.
