  • (1888PressRelease) July 09, 2010 - Chennai, July 8th, 2010 - DevCamp Chennai 2010, the first DevCamp (Developer Camp) to be held in the city, will take place on July 10, 2010, at the ThoughtWorks Chennai office. DevCamp is a BarCamp style 'unconference' intended for the software development community to share and learn in an open environment. This one-day community meet will provide developers, architects, CTOs, and independent consultants from across the country with a platform to voice their opinion on the latest technologies. The event is sponsored by ThoughtWorks, Zoho, and OrangeScape.

ThoughtWorks has organised DevCamps in its Bangalore and Pune offices in the last two years. This year, it instituted the Innovation & Technology Trust, a public non-profit with the objective of providing a support system and networking between professionals in the field of emerging technologies and open-source by bringing them together during workshops, seminars, conferences and unconferences.

DevCamp Chennai is currently one of the most anticipated tech events among the software community. The diverse range of sessions, from "Adobe AIR on Android devices" to "Getting started with Amazon Web Services" to "Identifying code smells and applying refactoring techniques" promises to make this DevCamp unlike any other. So far there are speakers from 12 companies, and attendees from 87 companies. Over 250 people have already signed up, and the registrations are still pouring in.

ThoughtWorkers, Boojapathy C. and Balaji Damodaran, facilitators of the event, said: "We're excited about the event, as it will be a showcase of knowledge and information sharing among the Chennai developer community. DevCamp is meant to connect like-minded developers across organisations, and aid in continuous learning. This is the first time such a BarCamp style event for developers is taking place in Chennai, and the response has been truly amazing."
