  • Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) March 12, 2015 - A Des Plaines nursing facility was saved by fire sprinklers on February 19, 2015 around 8:15am. The fire occurred in a second floor room at the Ballard Respiratory and Rehabilitation facility. The second room floor had a mattress fire, but the cause of the fire has not yet been released.

Four people had minor injuries. The injuries are believed to have been from smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained by a single sprinkler head in the room of origin. North Maine Fire Department Chief Rick Dobrowski reported to the TribLocal, "I would hate to think what would have happened if there wasn't a sprinkler there."

F.E. Moran Fire Protection is proud to have installed the fire sprinklers on this project. This was a retrofit that took place in the fall of 2012. Since then, they have had peace of mind in knowing that their facility is safe from fire.

Arnold Witzke, Fire Marshal for the North Maine Fire Protection District said, "From the day of the incident, I felt it necessary to let you know the system your company installed needs to be credited with a save…. Our department feels that there was a distinct possibility we could have had loss of life or more serious injuries than was experienced…. on behalf of Fire Chief Richard Dobrowski and the entire North Maine Fire Protection District, job well done, F.E. Moran."
