  • (1888PressRelease) November 02, 2011 - Abu Dhabi, UAE: Dental implantology is a 'hot topic' in dentistry and growing demand for this procedure in the Middle East indicates that dental patients are better informed than ever before demanding the latest, most advanced dental techniques available in the market. Invasive methods of dentistry such as dental implantology require highly specialised dentists and, according to Prof Dr Heiner Weber, Chairman, University of Tuebingen, Department of Prostodontics, Germany, patients should be advised to watch out for qualified dentists when considering invasive treatment.

Speaking during the opening day of the 2011 Dentistry Middle East Exhibition and Congress in Abu Dhabi, Prof Dr Weber believes that the question of who is legally authorised to carry out any kind of therapy in general, and dental implantology in particular, is based on the law structure and, to a certain extent, on the 'cultural understanding' of a country.

"At least in European countries, both medical doctors and dentists may be sued for malpractice and they will need to prove that they gained an appropriate education and that they maintained a certain level of continuous education and gained relevant experience," says Prof Dr Weber. "In Germany, for example, you can call yourself a 'specialist' when you can prove that you received additional education in executing a certain therapy and when you can prove that a minimum of 30% of all of your professional activities in everyday practice are related to this specific therapy. This kind of specialisation should be implemented worldwide, including in the Middle East, in order to at least provide a minimum level of quality control."

Dental implantology describes a method by which metal posts or screws - the majority being made from pure titanium - are inserted into the jaw bone in order to simulate a tooth route. All types of crowns, bridges, and removable dentures can be attached to these so-called implants. This type of treatment is very common in the Middle East due to the high number of diabetic patients in the region, most of who suffer from dental decay.

The Middle East's premier gathering of dental professionals opened its doors today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The Dentistry Exhibition and Conference will continue on 2-3 November, with more than 30 leading experts in the field of dentistry highlighting the educational significance of the event.

Prof Dr Asmat Lone, Founder, Asmat Dental Clinic, Abu Dhabi, UAE and Chairman of the Advisory Board for Dentistry Middle East 2011, explains: "Missing teeth are becoming a major problem in the Middle East as people are loosing teeth due to decay and trauma. The teeth have to be replaced and implantology is becoming the first choice. Prof Dr Weber's demonstration and lecture on the latest concepts in implantology demonstrated the concept of immediate loading which previously posed a problem to dentist."

Crafted by Informa Exhibitions, the organiser of the annual Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, Dentistry Middle East 2011 is supported by the UAE Ministry of Health and the Dubai Health Authority, and the conference has Continuing Medical Education accreditation provided by the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi.

This year's exhibition, which runs beside the conference, will showcase a wide range of products including those from leading regional and global suppliers such as Samwoo, Gimhae Biomedical Centre, Dubai Medical Equipment, Aachen Dental Laser Center and Al Thanaya Pharmaceutical.

"We believe that Dentistry Middle East is a lucrative form of marketing for dental products and that this meeting will strengthen the level of development of the industry across the region whilst enabling a sustainable growth pattern in the dental healthcare sector," says Luz Ghajendren, Managing Director, Al Thanaya Pharmaceutical. "Al Thanaya Pharmaceutical is featuring an innovation for bone cutting in surgical protocol in implantology, using the original Piezosurgery."

Trade visitors have unlimited access to the exhibition, and may register their participation at any time prior to or during the event. For more information about Dentistry Middle East 2011, please call +971 4 336 7334 or visit www.dentistryme.com.
