  • (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2011 - The company will also exhibit its OrthoModel and OrthoMill software for the production of custom orthotic insoles in China for the first time at the event.

Delcam CRISPIN is the world’s largest supplier of CADCAM software to the footwear industry and is the only supplier able to provide a complete solution for the design and manufacture of lasts, uppers and soles. The new range features a completely redesigned user interface that will make the software easier to learn and quicker to use. It will, therefore, make the system more productive at all stages of the development of new footwear designs. All of the key programs, LastMaker for last design, ShoeDesign for upper and sole design, and Engineer Pro for 2D pattern development, have the new, more productive interface style, meaning that anyone who can use one of the programs can quickly learn the others.

As well as the improved interface, the latest software also includes significant enhancements to the LastMaker and ShoeDesign programs, new standard modules in Engineer Pro, plus general speed improvements across the full range.

Visitors to the Delcam CRISPIN stand will also be able to see the new ShoeMaker software for 3D footwear design. This is the first program to integrate the design of both uppers and soles in 3D, so allowing the complete shoe to be developed and visualised simultaneously. While the 3D approach will help all footwear companies, it will mainly benefit those making sports shoes and other designs with complex soles.

ShoeMaker incorporates the same easy-to-learn interface as the other programs, making it ideal for concept designers that might come from an artistic background rather than an engineering education. All of the icons feature specific footwear imagery, making the software very intuitive to use.

Of course, ShoeMaker is compatible with the complete range of Delcam CRISPIN software, including programs for costing, material cutting and mouldmaking. This allows a single file to be used for each project, from initial concept design through to mass production, so simplifying data management and project planning.

Increased productivity has also been the main focus in the new releases of OrthoModel and OrthoMill, especially for companies making soft insoles from EVA. Other enhancements in OrthoModel include improved methods for the development of foot-positive designs, while the new OrthoMill program reflects the recent enhancements to Delcam’s PowerMILL engineering CAM system on which it is based. These include support for the latest hardware developments, such as 64-bit operation, multi-threading and background processing, that can significantly reduce calculation times.

In Guangzhou, Delcam CRISPIN will also show its iQube 3D scanner to capture data for the design of orthotics. The scanner can be used to capture data directly from the patient’s foot, or to scan casts or foam-box impressions. The scan data can then be sent to the laboratory that will manufacture the orthotic, along with a prescription, so eliminating the costs and time delays associated with delivering casts or foam boxes around the country or even internationally.

Both Delcam’s software and the iQube scanner help to increase productivity, profitability and patient satisfaction by replacing the expensive, slow and messy casting process with a simple, non-contact digital solution. They are developed in association with laboratories, podiatrists and orthotists from around the world, coupled with Delcam’s knowledge of footwear design and manufacture gained from its relationships with leading brands such as Nike and Reebok.

The main advantage of the Delcam software is that it allows much faster manufacture of all types of orthotic, so enabling the patient to benefit from the device more quickly. This is especially important when a series of orthotics is required as the patient moves along a treatment path. It is much easier to adjust the computer data, rather than regularly recasting designs from the patient’s foot.
