  • (1888PressRelease) August 11, 2010 - Cincinnati, Ohio - Within 20 years, the number of elderly Americans will double from what it was in the year 2000, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Administration on Aging.

As the senior population grows and the economy softens, the difficulties of day to day living for seniors are magnified. The traditional resources that keep seniors connected to their families and communities such as reliable transportation and support services are less available.

To meet these unprecedented challenges, the Deaconess Associations Foundation is dedicated to finding, supporting and promoting innovative solutions that enable aging adults to live richer, more fulfilled, independent and vibrant lives.

As part of that goal, the Deaconess Associations Foundation announces a $25,000 award to be given to an organization that successfully enriches the quality of life for older adults through innovation.

The national award will honor an organization that has created solutions in technology, systems, processes, facilities, training, planning, security, transportation, recreational activities, mental or physical enrichment, or other areas. Medical advancements are excluded. Special consideration will be given to initiatives that have been successfully demonstrated in practice and have the ability to impact older adults' quality of life on larger scale.

Nominations will only be accepted online at www.LiveFull.org and must be received by midnight on September 15, 2010. The entry form includes opportunities for a brief description of the program and a 500-word narrative to highlight specific achievements and success.

Eligibility includes educational institutions, charities, and other non-profit and for profit organizations. Organizations must be located within the United States.
The award recipient will be determined by a panel of judges who are experienced advocates and professionals in the senior care industry.
