  • Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN-WI (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2017 - Karlstad, MN - Dave Hughes was the 2016 Republican Candidate for Congress who came within 5 points of defeating incumbent Collin Peterson. A couple weeks later he was the first US House Candidate in the nation to file with the Federal Elections Commission his proper paperwork for the 2018 cycle.

As part of the grassroots effort for 2018 Hughes has looked to the great grassroots support he garnered in 2016, and has the following Team Hughes Captains committed for the 2018 cycle.

    Tim Benoit in Meeker County
    David Rohy in Meeker County
    Colton Determan in Becker County
    Mickey Kyler in Polk County
    Shelly Woods in Sibley County
    Jon Allen in Douglas County
    Janine Hanson in Clay County

These Team Hughes Captains are already walking parades with Dave Hughes, walking in parades in his place, growing their own county teams, active on social media, and writing our county newspapers. In the Fall 2017/Winter 2018, these Captains will organize Town Halls. Then in the spring of 2018, roll out the yard signs in key locations and they will begin to mobilize the intense GOTV (Get Out The Vote) effort for the November election. These energized Team Hughes members are working hard now in their counties organizing and sharing their support for Dave Hughes as the next congressman from the 7th Congressional District. More Team Hughes Captains will be named in coming weeks and months as the Dave Hughes for Congress campaign teaches, trains, and communicates the hard work that must be done for victory; and more supporters agree to the mighty job ahead.

One of the many challenges Dave Hughes has in the 2018 election cycle is how under the lack of leadership of Collin Peterson, rural Minnesota is deteriorating. Collin Peterson has led Minnesota into complete irrelevance in the new economy. Therefore a handful of rural counties in western Minnesota don’t even have Republican operatives due to lack of population. That makes farming Team Hughes members even harder. Hughes hopes that the Republicans in these areas come forward and work for true Conservative change in their deteriorating counties. Time to Make MN-7 Red Again! Time to bring back innovation, manufacturing, technology, and increased Ag businesses to western Minnesota to keep our young people home, or bring them back home. That will be done with a Congressman Hughes.

In addition, the following District-wide leaders have agreed to remain on board and are actively working for the Hughes 2018 victory.

    Amanda Hughes as Communication Director
Jacob Bakke as Grassroots Outreach Director
Eric Magner as Advisory Board – National Security
    Karen Waller as Scheduler
Brad Schmidt as Advisory Board – Policy Research Advocate

More District-Wide leaders are coming on board soon!
“I am honored to have such knowledgeable, hardworking team members on Team Hughes, all ready for the 2018 victory. Having such an amazing team energizes me! I continually gain confidence in what is happening in Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District, and I look forward to taking on Collin Peterson again. I beat him in 12 counties* in 2016, and I will better that in 2018, and bring home the victory for the district’s Conservatives. I look forward to being in service to the people of western Minnesota.”

These Team Hughes Captains and additional district-wide leadership members confirm that Dave Hughes has the majority of the support of the delegates in their counties for the Republican Endorsement in April of 2018. Hughes won the 2016 Endorsement with a great majority, and their support remains strong and loyal. Hughes remains steadfast and focused on the 2018 defeat of Collin Peterson. “I feel like an even stronger candidate in the 2018 cycle since I have debated Collin before, I know where the holes are that haven’t been filled, and I know where the votes can be won. I think he is a nice guy, just on the wrong side on many issues, and he’s one-issue-focused. There are many issues that concern the district, and I am ready to show leadership in the US House to help alleviate some of the stress our constituents are facing, like skyrocketing healthcare costs, concerns over trade, rising taxes, the ever increasing National Debt and tax load, militant Islam and more. I am prepared to lead on the issues that concern Minnesotans.”

Dave Hughes is working hard now, for a 2018 victory. He has walked in 12 parades so far this summer, and had surrogates walk in 2 additional. It has been a rainy June so a couple have been cancelled. Parade and Fair season ramps up in July and Hughes has already been to every corner of the district. There has been a marked difference in the response to his parade exposure. “In 2016, I walked in dozens of parades and I was new to everyone. This year I am so thankful and encouraged by the enthusiastic response for me just being there. People coming out to the middle of the street, fist pumping and cheering – just to shake my hand. Words like ‘Time to make it happen!’, ‘You got my vote again!’, ‘This is the time!’ I am so thankful, and I will keep working hard connecting with the good people of western Minnesota from the Canadian border almost down to Iowa. I am not afraid of hard work. People want to see their candidates, shake their hands and know they are available. And I will be that same man as a Congressman.”
