  • Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) March 28, 2012 - This week Darnell T. Glover, President/CEO of Chicago's Darnell T. Glover Media Communications Productions has announced a meeting with Infinite Spirit Music Recording Artist Pianist Soji Adebayo who has from 1970 to the present has performed with Fred Anderson, Light Henry Huff, Ari Brown, Billy Brimfield, Hanah Jon Taylor, Reggie Nicholson, Yosef Ben Isreal, Tyler Caton, Chavanduka, Sherry Scott, Rita Warford, Ka t'Etta Aton, Malachi Favors Maghostut, Famoudou Don Moye, Vandy Harris, Bernard Mixon, Freddie White, Afifi, James Perkins, Von Freeman, Chico Freeman, Cecil McBee, Billy Hart, Jerry Wilson, George Lewis, Thomas Palmer, Douglas Ewart, Hamid Drake, Kalaparusha, Phil Cohran, Edward Wilkerson Jr., Enoch Williamson, Oscar Brown III, Donald Pate, Mendye Davis, Dushun Mosley, Kahil EL Zabar, Zimbabu Aye Aton, Avreeyal Ra, Steve Cobb, Luba Rasheik, Greg Kelly, Dawi, Tomzell SuRa Ramses, Atuqay, Cecile Savage, Rasul Siddick, Arlington Davis, Ed House, Ike' Olu, Ajarumu, Richard Brown Drahsheer Khalid, Adegoke Steve Colson to name a few states Glover.

During the meeting it was revealed that the results of Soji's research into history and spirituality have been translated into a group improvisation concept that has roots in world music, the offering of love, and the worship of the divine. Soji has mixed other divergent idioms into his feeling for global music traditions such as boogie woogie, bebop, free jazz, gospel, blues, and soul music. Soji now believes it is his destiny to bring inspirational feeling to his listeners through a synthesis of ancient and modern ideas that stimulate trance like experiences.

Soji's commitment has allowed him to produce and participate in a staggering number of performances over a 40 year period in which he has played virtually all original music. One of the early exponents of modern ethnic /spiritual music. Soji's performances in the mid 70′s with members of the AACM, Sun Ra's Arkestra, and the Muntu African Dance Theater predated the now current interest in non-western music by many years

The result of this potent mix of ideas emerged as Soji's 80′s music which, not surprisingly, was an interpretation of the inspirational music of John Coltrane, Fred Anderson, Sun Ra, Kelan Phil Cohran and others.

The fertility of this period yielded a self-produced studio album " Live without Fear;" a live WBEZ broadcast from The Jazz Showcase hosted by Neil Tesser as "Windy City Jazz;" performances at the Black Theater Month festivals created by the Ebony Talent Association; a live broadcast on the Larry Smith Jazz Show also on WBEZ.

During this period Soji opened for Gil Scott-Heron at Chicago State University. Soji also made numerous appearances in AACM festivals and Kahil El-Zabar's Underground Jazz Festivals, leading his band, Infinite Spirit Music, and playing with other innovative musicians.

ln the early 90′s Soji met Freddie White, drummer for Earth, Wind, and Fire, and appeared in Freddies' band at the BackRoom nite club for 7 nights. During this time Soji absorbed ideas from the great tradition of Rhythm and Blues and discovered the compatibility of R and B rhythms and free improvisation.

Soji appeared for 2 years at the Ethiopian Village Café and absorbed ideas from ancient and modern Ethiopian music. Soji sees his music as an extension of world music as well as well as the music of Fred Anderson, Sun Ra, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Kelan Phil Cohran, Ornette Coleman and the electric funk of Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix. The spirit of John Coltrane somehow provides the glue for all of this musical energy to co-exist in ways that satisfy and delight.

A Love Supreme lives. "How often, in spirit, have I been with you?" Beethoven
The outcome of this meeting with Pianist Soji Adebayo is still in the development stages in creating a business relationship states Glover, but is very promising. Darnell has listen to his music and has found Soji Adebayo to be a very created, skilled and talented musician and has expressed that he loves his compositions.
