  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) October 27, 2022 - Author and dancer, Kara Tatelbaum, released her heartwarming, hilarious memoir on April 29, 2022. Putting My Heels Down – a memoir of having a dream and a day job has been enjoyed by many readers and dance students.

Readers fell in love with Shane when Kara met him in her Pilates class. Sixteen years after their first date, nine years after getting married, and two kids later, Shane was diagnosed with stage iv cancer in 2019. Unfortunately, colon cancer has become more common in younger people; Shane was only 43 years old when he was diagnosed.

During this cancer journey, Kara and her family discovered Gilda’s Club, named for the larger-than-life Gilda Radner, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 1989. Gilda’s Club is a special place for families to gather, and have a little fun even when a family member is battling cancer. George Oliphant, host of George to the Rescue, and his team provided a beautiful renovation of the teen and kids’ areas.

Fans of Kara’s memoir will also remember her mother, Shelley Tatelbaum, and what a force of nature she is! Shelley decided to ask George if he would renovate Kara and Shane’s New York apartment and he agreed to do just that.

“I couldn’t believe that George to the Rescue agreed to renovate our apartment,” says Tatelbaum. “A cancer diagnosis brings everything to a halt; work, school, seeing friends and family. Everything just stops. Now, we have a dream come true living space to enjoy. It feels like a new beginning. Our whole family is very grateful.”

The design team, Silver Lining and Meyers Davis, transformed the apartment with new flooring, furniture, and custom built-ins.

The Tatelbaum episode of George to the Rescue will air on Saturday, October 29 on NBC and the show’s YouTube channel.

Putting My Heels Down has received rave reviews, including this one from Don Miguel Ruiz, Renowned Spiritual Teacher and International Bestselling Author, The Four Agreements: “Well-written, entertaining and poignant, when you get to the end you feel the love from her journey.”

Putting My Heels Down is published by Motina Books Publishing and is available everywhere books are sold.
