People's Choice strives to provide parents with reliable unbiased information about tools to help their children learn, explore new challenges, discuss ideas and pursue dreams. Laven's album falls wonderfully into the pursue dreams section.

Lahri Bond, who reviewed Cranberry Red Balloon (http://www.parents-choice.org/product.cfm?product_id=30268&StepNum=1&award=aw) for Parent's Choice, says, "The beautifully produced songs all have a kind of Southern Californian, sun-kissed quality. Laven's music recalls a hazy, pre-Punk purity that will attract older parents and certainly grandparents who were raised on the sounds of The Eagles, Brewer and Shipley and James Taylor."

Bond's review helps explain why the album, billed as Laven's first children's album, has gained fast popularity with parents and grandparents alike making it more of a family songs (http://www.cranberryredballoon.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14&Itemid=137) album.

"I created Cranberry Red Balloon from bits and pieces of my childhood when anything was possible and I looked at the world in wonderment. I hope it helps children dream and others to remember a time when they dreamed as well as inspire them to dream again," says Laven.

The Parent's Choice Foundation is the nation's oldest non-profit guide to quality children's media and toys. It was established in 1978 by Diana Huss who, while teaching a graduate class in children's literature, pulled together a discussion group of parents who felt their rigorous standards for their children's education were not being fulfilled. The mandate of the discussion group was clear: create for parents a non-commercial clearinghouse of supplementary media experiences and learning products. Only 20% of submissions receive a Parent's Choice award.
