Zawar Haider Abidi began his career in November 1976 when he joined the Pakistan Army. Sailing through various ranks as an officer, he retired in 2005 after 29 years of service as a lieutenant colonel, at which time he also received his Executive MBA in Marketing and Master's Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Presently serving as an expert with the United Nation Security Council 1540 Committee, Mr. Abidi assists the Committee in monitoring the implementation of United Nation Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004), regarding the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

He has been a visiting fellow of Stimsons Center in Washington, DC and is a former fellow for the Center for Non-Proliferation Studies.
