  • Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2014 - Rod Flower, President of Art &Soul and Adjunct Professor at Lone Star College, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Rod Flower's commitment to excellence in Arts/Entertainment and Higher Education. His most recent recognition was winning one of the eight benches sites for the Woodlands Art Bench Project.

Rod Flower began his career as an artist at the age of 14 when he was commissioned to paint two portraits. After graduating from high school he won a scholarship to attend Oregon College of Art, a school that focused on fundamentals in drawing and design. Throughout the years, he has created portraiture, figurative scenes, murals, landscapes, still life, magazine illustrations, and graphic design. He has also dedicated a significant part of his life to teaching art to kids and adults individually or in a group setting. In 2005, he started working in set design as a scenic artist for church stages and theater productions. He has worked with foam, creating sets, sculpture, and various props. In 2006, he formed his company, Art & Soul to create artworks that combined all his areas of expertise in painting, set design, architecture, and sculpture.

"My clients rely on me to help guide them through the process of creating artworks that fit their needs," Mr. Flower said. "Some clients, such as interior designers and theater directors, have excellent ideas of what they need and require, while others are less confident of what they're looking for. With feedback gathered from the review of sketches these clients are more definitive in making choices. My responsibility becomes important to maintain a rapport with the client so that as the design develops both the client and I agree on the changes."

Making sure the finished product produces a "wow" factor for each of his clients, Mr. Flower understands that each of them want a jaw-dropping experience and deserve it. Being versatile has given him a distinct advantage in his career, and he is thankful for this. His education, where he's had the opportunity to study ancient cultures like the Egyptians, Greeks, and Mayans, as well as exposure to theater, drama, musicals, and dance have been key to his success, and he hopes to continue to provide the best service possible with each and every client.

In the near future, Mr. Flower continues to look for the opportunity to enlarge his market in set designing at theme parks, as he already produced facades for trade shows and 3D characters for The Children's Museum in The Woodlands. He is also looking forward to continuing to contribute to the theater industry with animatronics, specifically motorized puppets with more sophisticated moving parts to make an even more unforgettable experience for viewers.

Recently, Mr. Flower won one of the eight Woodlands Art Bench projects, a contest for which artists from around the world competed to design and build a unique "art bench" to be located along The Woodlands Waterway, a 1.5 mile corridor running through The Woodlands Town Center.
