  • Oklahoma City, OK (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2012 - Michael D. Sheriff, Superintendent of Generation Deployment and Planning at OG&E Electric Service, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Michael D. Sheriff's commitment to excellence in Utilities, Electric Generation Planning, and Wind Energy.

Sheriff, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's Degree in Business Administration, both from Oklahoma State University, is a licensed professional engineer and registered project management professional, who began working for OG&E in 1974. He has worked in various capacities, including distribution, large projects, corporate marketing, demand site management and energy efficiency, business intelligence, corporate planning, and generation planning.

In his current role, Sheriff covers a very broad array of generation based issues ranging from keeping current on new generation technology and how the new technologies could be integrated into the company's generation fleet and have an impact on other units, forecasting long range operating characteristics of existing generating units, coordinating and vetting the impact to operations of numerous emissions control technologies, serving as technical lead in all negotiation for purchases of new generating assets, working on several committees to develop policies, guidelines, and standards, and performing ad hoc assignments relating to generation. He has led negotiation, which cumulated in OG&E acquiring $1 billion in renewable energy equipment.

"The challenge to learn and my diverse background of working in different departments of the company help me to understand the many aspects of my position," Sheriff said, "plus the knowledge gained from formalized training in engineering, finance, and accounting and many years of experience and specialized training courses."

Having always had the desire to be the best he could be, Sheriff hopes to work on more challenging assignments and to also coach and mentor the youth in their careers, while working to provide better solutions to providing electric energy at a reasonable cost to his company's customers.

Sheriff is a member of the Project Management Institute and Professional Registered Engineers in Oklahoma and Arkansas, and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is president-elect of the Oklahoma Renewable Energy Council, and is a board member of the Oklahoma State University Campus Wind Turbine Technology Advisory Council. He conducts public speaking on renewable energy and has served as an expert witness at FERC, Oklahoma Corporation Commission, Arkansas Public Service Commission, and District Court.
