  • Riverside-San Bernardino, CA (1888PressRelease) August 29, 2013 - Maria Guadalupe Ortiz, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Literature, Language, and Civilization and is a certified information processing specialist, began her career in business at age eighteen. After putting her career on hold to marry and have children, she reentered the workforce by earning her degree and getting certified.

Now the office manager for her company, Ms. Ortiz oversees daily operations like the phones, filing, mail, and data entry, as well as administration functions to include billing, payroll, scheduling of staff flights and hotel stays, board meetings, staff retreats, and other special events. For the past two years, she also became a member of the Fund Development Committee where she helps plan fundraising events.

"Having immigrated to California at age nine with my family as the oldest of four children at the time, and being an ill child in a foreign land, I went through many struggles while growing up," Ms. Ortiz said. "I was overprotected and constantly told that I couldn't do many things, which made me angry, giving me the drive to succeed and prove everyone wrong."

With over ten years of general office work and twenty years of ministry/volunteer experience at church and several non-profit organizations, Ms. Ortiz is certified to teach single-subject, is also certified in TSOL, and is a certified pre-marriage preparation minister.

Ms. Ortiz hopes to pursue her master's degree and teach at community college before working towards her PhD. She loves to write and would love to become a well-known author someday, and is also considering running for office in the near future to serve her local community. Currently, she is a member of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, New American Leaders Project, St. Bernardine's Annual Fiesta Committee, St. Beranrdine's Parish Council, and has been recognized as an Outstanding Citizen by a Spanish publicity magazine, participated in numerous poetry contests, and has been published as a contributing author in several poetry compilations in both English and Spanish.
