    Lisa Nowak began her career with the Department of Homeland Security/US Citizenship of Immigration Services (DHS/USCIS) in 2003 as an investigative assistant in the Fraud Detection Division. In 2006 she was promoted to work in the Records Division as a case resolution technician before becoming an immigration services analyst in 2007, the title she currently holds today.

    As an immigration services analyst, Ms. Nowak provides support to USCIS operations by conducting a wide range of projects and studies involving in-depth analysis to enhance operational effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity, answering directly to the field office director at her location. Specializing in quantitative versus quality analytical trends and analysis, Ms. Nowak also monitors immigration office production time and completions, comprising reports, lean quality quantity processes, and employee management and training.

    "I have previous experience working for a discrimination lawyer, which required attention to detail and accuracy. Time management was also a very crucial aspect of this job," Ms. Nowak explained. "I also worked for 12 years in law enforcement as a dispatcher and records division specialist. Being an analyst for the past seven years, I have learned that I am good at detecting outliers and patient in meeting my deadline when relying on others to complete their production accurately. My determination in getting to the bottom of a problem and needing to know all the steps in between is actually one of my best traits."

    Focused on building a meaningful and rewarding career, Ms. Nowak is happy with the direction her commitment and dedication have taken her. Currently, she is exploring her options in other career fields within the DHS/USCIS to continually challenge herself, possibly as a management program analyst with the Asylum office, as section chief of a Field Office, as the chief of the Fraud Detection Unit, as a field officer director, as chief of staff to the District Director, or even as district director for Miami.

    Ms. Nowak is a certified contracting officer representative through the Department of Homeland Security since 2009. She is the recipient of a 2013 Analyst of the Year award by the Southeast Regional Director of USCIS.
