  • Erie, PA (1888PressRelease) March 27, 2015 - L. Keith Eller, Owner and Medical Transcriptionist of MedScribe.com, has been selected as a VIP Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    L. Keith Eller began his career in transcription while still in school at the age of 42. Beginning by working for another company where he worked the second shift on a trial basis for free for one week, he was then offered a full-time position before offered a supervisory role nine months later. Training interns and new employees in his new role, he was in charge of scheduling 65 employees for an operation that was open 24 hours per day/7 days per week.

Gaining a tremendous amount of knowledge in the field, including a variety and specialties in medical terminology, medical equipment and procedures, the parts of the human body, medications, x-rays, and physical therapy, to name a few, Mr. Eller was able to open up his own medical transcription service in 1997.

In Mr. Eller's role as a transcriptionist, he listens to the physician dictating their latest physical or surgical procedure on a patient, what they found or what they did, what the prognosis is or what the diagnosis is, and what the plan of care is. It then gets typed into the computer into a report before being sent to that particular doctor who electronically signs the report before being electronically filed into the patient's file in the computer.

"I have somewhat of a photographic memory, which helps a great deal with remembering new drugs," Mr. Eller said. "These legal documents must meet high standards of quality, as most transcription companies will require a quality rating of 98 to 99.8%. I have always been at least 99% or above, so I know I am putting out the best quality and I expect the same from those working for me. I'm also able to put out a high quantity of work in a short amount of time and am able to give the physicians a quick turnaround time, which is very important to them."

Due to two knee injuries that required total knee replacements and a bad back, Mr. Eller found himself in need of a new career. The transcription business allowed him to earn a great living, open his own business, and be able to set his own hours and still be able to exercise and do rehab on his knees and back. The best part, however, is that he truly enjoys the work, as he finds transcription to be a very interesting field.

At the age of 67, Mr. Eller is not quite ready to retire just yet, but he anticipates possibly doing some sort of teaching or consulting when he is ready. Mr. Eller earned an Associate's Degree in Information Sciences Summa Cum Laude from ECPI College of Technology in 1991 and three years later was invited to become a board member to help decide on the curriculum for various classes offered at the school. He also taught as an instructor at one of their Hampton, Virginia sites teaching night classes in medical terminology and transcription. An avid racquetball player, Mr. Eller is also an active board member on the Pennsylvania Racquetball Board.
