  • (1888PressRelease) August 31, 2014 - Kieran Jack McGinley, Campus Bookstacks Employee for Trinity College of Dublin, and President of Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's Education Sector, has been selected as a VIP Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Kieran Jack McGinley began his career with the well-established booksellers, MH Gill & Son, in 1971. Moving to the public sector in 1974, he went to work in the library of The University of Dublin, Trinity College. He has worked in the Book Repository at Santry, which is part of the TCD Library and in the Campus Bookstacks in Trinity, for the last 40 years.

    Working for Campus Bookstacks, a closed access storage facility spread over six locations on campus that provides a service to readers for material that is not on open shelves, Dr. McGinley oversee work for the department that is logistical, providing a regular service to readers for incoming material and res-helving the material when returned. He also manages the weekly intake of new stock, with daily deliveries to and from their external storage from Santry and stored material at a commercial storage facility that is delivered twice per week pending the planning and construction of their next phase of storage space. Campus Bookstacks is one of the sub-units of the Readers Services division of the Library.

    "I am a firm believer in constant professional development," Dr. McGinley said. "I have always enjoyed a good work ethic and was very fortunate when I came to Trinity to work under a very fair minded and well respected supervisory colleague."

    Dr. McGinley holds a BA, PhD, and a postgraduate qualification in dispute and conflict resolution. He has contributed in the areas of health and safety, has written publications on substance abuse in the workplace and how to deal with it, and is involved in global solidarity projects in Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, and Palestine. He is also a chartered member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a member of the Irish National and University Libraries Staff, is involved in the International Labour & Employment Relations Association and Irish Association of Industrial Relations, and serves as chairman for City Wide Crisis Drug Network. Recently, Dr. McGinley was elected as president of the Irish Labour History Society.

    Dr. McGinley has written three books to date: 'Dear Comrade'; 'Dealing with Addiction'; and 'Dear Madam'. His private press, Umiskin Press, has recently published 'Eggs & Rashers: Irish Socialist Memories', written by now deceased author Matt Merrigan. Dr. McGinley was named Dubliner of the Month in January 1992, received a long service medal from the Westland Row Past Pupils Union, and is due to receive his honorary degree in his 41st year at the University.
