Douglas Childers, Senior Pastor at Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes J. Douglas Childers's commitment to excellence in Religious Services.

    J. Douglas Childers, who holds a BS in Criminal Justice from Brenau University and a Master's Degree in Theology from Candler School of Theology at Emory, is certified in Christian counseling through Georgia Christian Counselor Association. He entered the ministerial service in 1980.

    Six years later, in 1986, Mr. Childers became licensed by the North Georgia Conference (United Methodist Church) to serve as a local pastor. He began his pastoral career with the United Methodist Church in 1988. He was ordained a deacon in 1990 and an elder in 1993.

    As senior pastor at Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, Mr. Childers acts as CEO, responsible for all church programs and by attending to all the needs of its congregation. He provides services to the congregation, which include counseling, marriage performances, funeral services, and by providing leadership as a liaison between the community and the church. He also preparing sermons, preaching the gospel, and assisting his congregation with spiritual matters, which he has now done for more than twenty-five years.

    "I was attracted to the occupation of ministry because it provided me the opportunity to help others," Mr. Childers said, who is a trained Christian Counsellor preparing sermons, preaching the gospel, and assisting his congregation for more than twenty-five years. "Being a child of the 1960s, the work of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King also had a big influence on me."

    In the future Mr. Childers hopes to teach more and serve more as a Christian counselor. He is a member of the Ministers Association and serves as a board member of the Wesley Foundation at West Georgia College. He's written articles as a guest writer for several newspapers and has also authored a book, Rivers of Living Water: Sermons That Strengthen The Soul, released through Bookman Publishing in 2004. During his Christian vocation Mr. Childers has received Proclamations from the Hall County Board of Commissioners in 1992, the City of Gainesville Mayor's Office in June of 1992, and the State of Georgia in June of 2000. He received several military honors, including the Purple Heart, while serving with the 25th Infantry division of the United States Army in Viet Nam. His military tour of duty was 1968 to 1970.
